Onward & Upward is partnering with Burchell High School in offering a summer school program, Adventure Academy. During this two week course students will engage in a variety of team building gams and activities as they learn outdoor recreational skills with a focus on outdoor rock climbing and rappelling.
Rock climbing offers a unique blend of physical and mental challenges as each climb presents a unique puzzle to solve, requiring strategic thinking and problem solving. This is a beginner top rope climbing program. Instructors set up an anchor at the top of the climb and students climb with a rope and a belay partner. Students learn to run safety checks to double check their equipment and climb or rappel under the instructors’ supervision. Students get to set their own goals and can experience the success of this team experience even if they choose not to climb.
Working together as a team, building trust and a supportive environment fosters a strong sense of community creating lasting memories and friendships.
