Winter Outdoor Recreation
Learning to play in the snow will keep us active and healthy throughout the year, and develop a love for our Alaskan winters. Cross country skiing, snowshoeing and ice fishing are just some of the activities we’ll get to learn and experience. Winter self care, recognizing and treating cold weather injuries, decision making, learning about avalanche hazards and emergency responses are all components to this winter outdoor recreation course. Also, while recreating at local trails, parks and lakes we will also explore Alaska’s winter ecology, Traditional Knowledge and environmental ethics.
Onward & Upward will provide transportation and all necessary gear students will need to embrace these winter activities.

“I learned on this course that even when you are in a bad mood, you have the ability to change your mindset, and sometimes you need to think of what’s best for your fellow teammates.”
