Description
This outdoor recreation course provides students with instruction on rock climbing, rappelling and remote backcountry camping skills. The course emphasizes decision making, risk management and working together as a team.
Students spend the first three weeks at Burchell High School’s Challenge Course learning climbing, communication, and risk management skills through participating in low and high rope elements on the challenge course. All activities are “Challenge by Choice” and students get to choose their level of participation.
The fourth and final week, students will camp and climb at our remote climbing site near Purinton Creek, North of Sutton, AK.
Talk to your advisor about credit options. This course meets the requirements for 0.5 credits in Outdoor Recreation.

Student Eligibility
This course is designed for students grades 7-12, Ages 13-18.
Please let us know if your student needs any special accommodations.
Adverse Conditions
Adverse environmental conditions can occur during the program (i.e. cold, wet, or snowy conditions).
Onward & Upward supplies all recreational equipment, but students should be prepared to spend the majority of each class outdoors and come prepared with athletic shoes, extra layers of clothing and rain gear.
Tuition: $500
We are an approved vendor with many local homeschool groups.
